Welcome to David's Official Nook of CyberSpace

Hi Natalie ;-)

Come in, come in... Sit back, relax and allow me, your humble host David Laing, lover of computers, avid peruser of The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and admirer of all things zany, to make your stay as enjoyable and forfilling as possible

This page purposefully lacks some of the more extravagant elements seen on other web pages like animations, frames, massive graphics and backgrounds (It does have a scrolly, so stop whining). I'd much rather waste your bandwidth on far more interesting things. (Like the JavaScript I'm adding sporadically) Besides, Tripod only allows its members 200KB of disk space, and my internet connection is slow, proberbly due to the fact that I live in South Africa.

So, who am I? I used to be an 18yr old male matric student at Oakhill School in Knysna, Western Cape, South Africa, but now I'm finished. Get an atlas, page to Africa, and I live near one of those dots at the middle of the southernmost coastline. (Bring your towel :-)

It is in my humble opinion that we have (in Plettenberg Bay, where I actually live) the most beautiful beaches in the world, which is why I am a surf lifesaver during the Christmas holidays. Lifesaving would be far more interesting if one could get an internet connection on the beach. Guess I'll just have to do with watching over all the babelicious peoples...

So, what else do I do? Well, I used to spend a depressing 57% of my life roaming the corridors and classrooms of Oakhill School, with my faithfull sidekick Wonko, searching for adventure, but sadly seldom finding any. Now I spend that time doing other stuff. Next year we'll both be roaming the University of Cape Town - hopefully there is more adventure there :-)

I used to spend most of the rest of my life (13%) at school fixing, hacking and funning on Oakhill's 12 Pentium network. Now I spend that time procrastinating on Splonk (my computer) here at home. Hacking, writing email, and going to places which I don't always enjoy being at take up most of the other 28% of my life, along with eating and sleeping.
The final 2% of my life is spent mountain biking, jogging and surfing.

More about me, my life,my fascinating and humourously narrated computer experiences, how to flip pancakes can be found by going here

The rest of this page has been divided into three sections for your convenience Phantasmagorically interesting stuff,Moderately interesting stuff and lastly Just other stuff, for your convienience. You won't find this level of service just anywhere!

1. Phantasmogorically interesting stuff

I think lots of things are interesting. In fact life is a very interesting experience. However, I think life is even more interesting because we have computers.

Did you know that at the turn of this centuary most of the greatest companies in the world could go backrupt? Pop over to Year 2000 to find out why.

Jerry Pournelle is one of my favourite computer authors. Jerry is the kind of person who uses stuff, and isn't misled by the technical mumbo-jumbo. I value his recommendations very highly. He is also a professional writer, and his pieces are very well written and humourous. Highly recommended.

Speaking of highly recommended, check out Tom's hardware and performance page for everything you could concievably what to know about purchasing your next Pentium/PPro. Tom's site is experiencing about 7000 hits transfering over 1 gig per day. So do him a favour, and access it on off peak times please.

I'm currently reading Fingerprints of the Gods, an absolutely fascinating book proposing a radical paradigm shift in our perception ancient history. You can read the first chapter online at the above link, which I guarentee will hook you. Enjoy!

2. Moderately interesting stuff

At the moment, everything in my mind is fantastically interesting, so this section is going to be a little sparse.

Very sparse as it turns out :-)

3. Just other stuff

I suppose I'd better put some miscellaneous links in this section. Like some people's homepages and stuff. Well, I'll do that tomorrow.
